California’s Democratic-dominated government has a long history of enacting anti-Christian and pro-LGBT requirements for school children.
One law allows school teachers to take children away from schools for “counseling sessions” without parental knowledge. Another punishes students for “peacefully speaking or writing against the unnatural lifestyle choices of homosexuality and bisexuality.”
Students are required to celebrate the late gay-activist politician Harvey Milk. They are taught gender is a choice, and schools are banned from negative depictions of homosexuality, such as referencing a community’s high incidence of HIV/AIDS.
Now Colorado residents, under a Democratic legislature and governor’s office, are being warned by famed adviser to presidents and counselor to parents James Dobson that their state is heading the same way.
His James Dobson Family Institute on Tuesday released a statement on the adoption by a committee of House Bill 2032, which clears it for a vote.
Among other things, it would repeal state law allowing instruction on abstinence and order that all children older than 8 be indoctrinated on LGBT “relationship models.”
“It seems everywhere we look these days, Democratic-led state legislatures are racing to the far left on many of the most divisive social issues of our time,” Dobson said.
“In the same week that New York, Virginia and Rhode Island shocked the nation by advancing (and in the case of New York, passing) late-term abortion laws that amount to nothing short of infanticide, our very own home state of Colorado is attempting to advance dangerous legislation which would prohibit traditional family values being taught in our public school sex ed courses.”
Dobson moved his Focus on the Family organization from California to Colorado in 1991. He now leads the James Dobson Family Institute, home to his FamilyTalk radio programs.
Dobson said the bill “would mandate and expand the teaching of ‘different relationship models,’ such as LGBT relationships, to some of our youngest children all while prohibiting abstinence-only teaching.”
“The bill would furthermore remove exemptions from a 2013 law, which up until now has allowed charter schools to teach more traditional values in class should they choose to do so,” he said.
“If you believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, HB 1032 says too bad, your ideas are antiquated. If you believe that sex is meant to be between a husband and wife, this bill says you should just give up those old notions because young people are going to do as they please anyway. If you believe it’s a parent’s sole right and responsibility to teach their child about what healthy sexuality looks like, this bill robs you of that right and hands it over to the government. If you simply believe there should be more options for parents who can’t afford private school, where their children can learn traditional family values about relationships and sexuality, this bill says your ideas no longer matter in America.”
The Colorado legislature moved heavily left a decade ago under the financial influence of several wealthy Democratic donors who strategically donated to key state legislative races. Despite their spending, the GOP has maintained some influence in the statehouse until this year, when Democrats took the majority in both houses.
Further, Jared Polis, a Democrat mega-millionaire who spent a decade in Congress promoting homosexuality, is now in the governor’s office, which refused to respond to a WND request for comment on the bill.
Dobson said: “House Bill 1032 is a clear offense to our deeply held Christian convictions, and runs contrary to the value systems of millions of Colorado families. This legislation also removes local control of our schools and represents a fundamental attack on parental rights. For all of these reasons, the JDFI condemns House Bill 1032 in the strongest possible terms and will work to stop it before it can be signed into law. The JDFI calls on all citizens of Colorado of faith and traditional values to contact their state legislators and join together in this urgent fight to ensure HB 1032 does not pass the General Assembly.”
In recent months, far-left California lawmakers have flirted with a law that effectively would ban the Bible, because of its teaching against homosexual behavior. Lawmakers also considered make counseling a “consumer fraud” for the same reason.
WND columnist Brian Sussman lamented the “pride in defying God” that California lawmakers exhibit.
He pointed out the Bible states, “So God created humankind in his own image; in the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.”
“The first thing we note in this verse is that God fashioned us, ‘in his own image.’ In doing so, He set us apart from the animal world, provided us with the keen ability to distinguish good from evil and enabled us to commune with Him. Secondly, God created two distinct genders: male and female,” he wrote.
“This single line has provided countless generations with a foundation that supplies a clear anthropology, an understanding of humanity, and illustrates the hard-wired differences between men and women. But California’s radicals have been systematically rewriting the truths found in Genesis 1:27.”
He warned: “God created us male and female, and that matters. What the legislature in California (and elsewhere) is doing purposefully distorts the image of God and His plan for sexuality, marriage, family and society.”
Dobson has written dozens of books and advised at least five presidents. He has provided advice to millions of American Christian parents faced with the difficulties of raising children in an increasingly secular society.
