A popular YouTube personality claimed a waitress at a Hooters restaurant refused to serve him after he, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, acknowledged he was a supporter of President Trump and his signature slogan.
Tommy Sotomayor of Scottsdale, Arizona, posted a video Jan. 13 presenting his account of the incident moments after it happened, reported NTD TV on its website.
“Alright, ladies and gentlemen, I want to point something out to ya’ll. Can I get all ya’lls’ attention for a second? Ya’ll see that young lady right there,” he said.
“That’s Shay. She’s the waitress for Hooters. Shay walked up to me, saw my hat and said, ‘Are you a Trump supporter?”
When Sotomayor replied that he had voted for Trump, the waitress left without taking the order, he said.
“All I wanted to show ya’ll is that most of the time when ya’ll see me doing these videos, you think I’m making [expletive] up. I’m not. This is real world stuff.”
(WARNING: Some obscenities can be heard in the video):
Sotomayor said he informed the restaurant manager of the waitress’s behavior, and the manager asked her to join them for a conversation.
“Shay, I would wear that hat, why are you making fun of that hat?” the manager asked her.
“I didn’t make fun of your hat,” Shay told Sotomayor. “I said, ‘Are you a Trump supporter?’ That’s it. All I asked was one question.”
The manager later told Sotomayor he’s a “big Trump supporter” and promised to “pull her aside and have a little talk with her.”
Near the end of the video, Sotomayor said: “Your hat should not make a person decide that they’re not going to do their job.”
