A Hispanic man identified only as Miguel claimed in an interview with Noticias Univision he had engaged in a sexual relationship with Orlando terror shooter Omar Mateen for the two months before the massacre at Pulse, the city's "gay" nightclub, and that the reason behind the attack was "revenge" against Puerto Ricans.
"We never took a picture together but it wasn't because I didn't want to," Miguel said, during the interview. "One time we were in bed together and I took my phone to take a selfie and he grabbed my arm and told me not to do it because we weren't a couple."
Miguel described Mateen as "adorable" and "sweet" during the interview and said he was surprised when he learned of his attack at the club.
FBI agents, investigating witness claims that Mateen had used "gay" apps to meet other men and had frequented Pulse several times before the attack, have questioned Miguel, he told the news outlet.
He also said Mateen had been attracted to Latinos but "had rage" against Puerto Ricans, based on an unprotected sexual encounter with three men, one of whom had HIV, he allegedly had after meeting them at Pulse, the Hill reported.
Univision said it could not verify Miguel's comments. During the interview, he appeared to b wearing a mask and makeup to conceal his identity.
"He hated Puerto Rican gays because of the bad things they did to him," Miguel said, the Hill reported.
