(Editor’s note: Colin Flaherty has done more reporting than any other journalist on what appears to be a nationwide trend of skyrocketing black-on-white crime, violence and abuse. WND features these reports to counterbalance the virtual blackout by the rest of the media due to their concerns that reporting such incidents would be inflammatory or even racist. WND considers it racist not to report racial abuse solely because of the skin color of the perpetrators or victims.)
EDITOR’S NOTE: The links in the following report may contain offensive language.
Ravi Baichwal is not going to like this: Three-thousand people fought, looted, rioted, assaulted, cursed, threatened, hurled racial epithets and vandalized a Chicago neighborhood over the weekend.
And all of them were black.
Baichwal, a news anchor for the ABC affiliate in Chicago, says anyone who notices that is “an idiot.”
Repeated examples of black mob violence in Chicago are “not riots,” Baichwal said. “It’s disaffected youth for sure,” and anyone who disagrees is “just race-baiting.”
Baichwal was commenting on an epidemic of more than 450 cases of black mob violence in Chicago and around the country documented in the book “White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence and how the media ignore it.”
Despite abundant video evidence, Baichwal was not buying it. Perhaps that is why Baichwal’s news outlet was just one of several in Chicago to downplay the number of rioters and the extent of the damage from the latest violence.
Baichwal’s news station reported that 30 “young people” started the problem at the Ford City Mall, with the number growing to 100 as the mob moved outside.
The Chicago Sun Times did not try to estimate how many people were involved in the riot, other than to say it was a “group of youths” that inflicted “minor injuries” on two people.
The videos, on-line comments, and Chicago police officers tell a different story.
“This story is NOT accurate at all,” said a Chicago police officer who grew up near the Ford City Mall, referring to the Sun Times report. “They were looting, causing HAVOC not just in the mall, but stories all around the mall too.”
Several people said that the mob moved to the nearby Best Buy, Olive Garden and Sports Authority, where they did “severe damage” and caused many people to hide in the back of the stores. The video bears them out.
Urban101.com – “Chicago’s Number One Urban Web Site” – estimated 3,000 people were at the “riot.”
And Twitter, of course, was full of comments from people who were there.
Several videos show a chaotic scene full of violence and mayhem, in and out of the mall, spilling into surrounding neighborhoods.
One video shows a large group of black people in the middle of a busy street near the mall, with the videographer urging one of the rioters to "throw that b----. Throw that b----."
Which in this case meant pick up a chair from the middle of a street, run up to an SUV stuck in traffic, and use the chair to smash the rear window.
One poster to the Sun Times news story identified only as "terrified" may have been in that car. Or "terrified" may have been in a different car, either way:
This was not just a "disturbance" as the media has been calling it. I was driving on Cicero when a mob of people ran into the street and surrounded my car. They then shattered my windows and attempted to get in. I honestly thought I was going to die. These young adults need to be held accountable for their actions. There were 700+ individuals rioting and looting. Why?
No one know the answer to that, in part because so few news outlets are willing or able to report on the extent and severity of the violence.
Other videos show fighting, people jumping on cars, and other acts of lawlessness. Chicago police arrested 20: All charged with misdemeanors.
Dominique Williams told the Sun Times she was at the mall, and like Baichwal, rejects the idea that race had anything to do with it. And that white people are just as prone to violence:
you cannot judge us african americans as a whole because a few people decide to act up because white people are ignorant as well. let it have been a rock band there you white people would of probably burned the mall down n this comment all you ignorant white people on here talkin about my race instead of this incident !
Williams neglected to provide any examples of that.
As usual, the police officers at SecondCityCop Blog were keeping it real:
As a PO (police officer) who works in 018 (downtown) I can tell you this is getting way out of control. I don't know what the answer is but something needs to be done to prevent large groups of black kids going around with the sole purpose of causing trouble. Maybe I just don't know but in all seriousness can anyone think of an incident in which another race of kids gets into a pack with the sole purpose of causing mayhem?
City officials, the media and the occasional Internet outlier might be the only three places left where people still deny Chicago is under assault from more than 50 episodes of black mobs attacking, beating, robbing and vandalizing over the last three years all over the City. But many downtown.
Some call it the "Chicago Intifada." Or "Chi-Raq."
Many public officials and in the media condone, ignore or even lie about the black mob violence.
Let's start with the lie: City officials said excess heat forced them to close the North Avenue Beach near downtown Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend 2011. Other beaches nearby remained open.
City officials denied the closing had anything to do with 1,000 black people fighting and rioting at the beach. Then-acting Police Superintendent McCarthy said he had reviewed the 911 tapes and denied anything had happened at all.
Callers to talk radio and nearby residents who witnessed the mayhem are still wondering how anyone could deny the reality of 1000 black people at the beach creating violence.
Two months later, McCarthy said he had figured out who was really responsible for all the violence in Chicago: Sarah Palin.
Last year, he blamed the Pilgrims.
A story last summer in WND.com documented many other examples of black mob violence -- and how the local press is loathe to cover it.
The headlines tell the rest of the story of the history of recent racial violence in Chicago:
And many, many more at WhiteGirlBleedaLot.com.
While city officials and the Chicago media stumble over each other to deny the racial violence exists, at least one black Chicago alderman figures if you can’t beat 'em, join 'em: Alderman Anthony Beale said last summer that if Metra, the city transit agency, does not hire more minorities, "people are going to get hurt."
Even the Sun-Times could not ignore that: Its headline said: "Beale predicts violence if Metra doesn't hire more minorities for rail project."
Congressman Bobby Rush said racial violence was nothing new in Chicago. But the only time anyone pays attention to it is when is happens in white neighborhoods or in the downtown area.
Rush was reacting to a series of black mob attacks at the so-called Magnificent Mile, an upscale shopping district downtown.
Several police officers at Second City Cop and in emails say the denial of racial mob violence in Chicago is just making it worse: "This is un-real," said one cop. "These kids acting like this and NOT getting in trouble makes them feel invincible."
